“As Christians, God has given us a special mission. That mission is to love others just as God himself loves us. We become His voice, His hands, His feet and His heart to those who are suffering. Times of suffering call for the best we can bring in hope and in compassion. As a community of believers, we are empowered to offer God’s comfort to all who need it. As we model the life of Christ in ministry to others, we become Christ to hurting people.” – Joyce Young
Joyce Young has been the Director of Care at Hempfield UMC since February of 2015. Having retired from a career in education to answer God’s call, she participated in the Clinical Pastoral Education program at Hershey Medical Center from September 2014 to May 2015. This training equipped Joyce for the role as Director of Care here at HUMC. She has a heart for people who are struggling. She enjoys learning and growing and engaging others in that process. Joyce and her husband, Frank, have been members of HUMC since 1985 and have served in numerous leadership roles. They are the parents of two married daughters and the grandparents of two. In addition, they are the ‘parents’ of one large, shiny black lab, named Mack.
