We do, however, speak a wisdom among the mature, but not a wisdom of this age, or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. On the contrary, we speak God’s hidden wisdom in a mystery, a wisdom God predestined before the ages for our glory. None of the rulers of this age knew this wisdom, because if they had known it, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. But as it is written, What no eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no human heart has conceived—God has prepared these things for those who love him. (1 Corinthians 2:6-9)
Wisdom is more than knowledge. Knowledge is the mere accumulation of facts. Wisdom understands the meaning and purpose of those facts. The mere accumulation of knowledge still leaves you void of understanding, but wisdom shows you what God intends to do in any circumstance. It shows you how things fit together and even how God can bring good things out of an evil situation. The wisdom of God is given freely to those who love God but it is hidden from those who do not.
So consider a situation you are currently facing. Perhaps you are facing a challenge you have never faced before or perhaps you are struggling through a situation you have long endured but never overcome. The world would suggest you accumulate knowledge so that you can better decide what to do. The bookstore will have a book to offer on the subject or you can find a website or podcast online. You can read and study endlessly, and none of this is bad in and of itself, but you will never have an understanding that brings peace until you turn to God. But if you turn to God and wait upon the Lord, He will freely give you his wisdom. He will show you what he intends to do through the situation you are facing. You will see how God will use your circumstance to bring about spiritual growth. The situation may not be immediately resolved or even conclude happily, but nonetheless, you will gain godly insight and grow spiritually through it. The world and its troubles are soon passing away, but your spiritual growth in the principles and values of the kingdom of God will endure to eternity.
Prayer:
Lord God, bestow upon me your wisdom, the wisdom you have kept hidden from the world but have prepared for all those who love you. I confess my love for you and my desire to live as a citizen of your kingdom. Open my eyes and my mind to see and understand your purposes. Give me insight to face challenges that suddenly arise. Give me peace to endure situations that are not quickly resolved. Help me to grow spiritually through each circumstance I face. And let me never be afraid, but let me rejoice that you are with me every step of the way.
