Because everyone who has been born of God conquers the world. (1 John 5:4)
Pastor John’s Notes:
There are two great kingdoms in conflict: the kingdom of God and the kingdom of the world. By our natural birth, we are citizens of the world and subject to worldly corruption. We see this corruption all around us. However, when we come to Jesus Christ and accept him as Savior, we are made citizens of the kingdom of God and given victory over the world. We are no longer victims but are victors over our corrupted human nature. We conquer the world through our obedience to God. When we follow God’s commands by our own free will, the power of sin is broken, and we enter into a new life of joy and peace. Our victory in Jesus Christ is not something we have to wait for until we die, but God intends for us to experience victory while we live on earth. And this earthly victory is a foretaste of heaven and the power we will enjoy for all eternity.
Lord, give me victory over the world. Set me free from the power of the sins that afflict me, and liberate me into the joyful life you intend me to live. Give me a new spiritual nature that transcends my common human nature. Let me enjoy a foretaste of heaven even while I live on earth.
