1 John 5:6-12

1 John 5:6-12

God’s Testimony concerning His Son

This is the one who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ, not with the water only but with the water and the blood. And the Spirit is the one that testifies, for the Spirit is the truth. There are three that testify: the Spirit and the water and the blood, and these three agree. If we receive human testimony, the testimony of God is greater; for this is the testimony of God that he has testified to his Son. Those who believe in the Son of God have the testimony in their hearts. Those who do not believe in God have made him a liar by not believing in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son. And this is the testimony: God gave us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Whoever has the Son has life; whoever does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Pastor John’s Notes:

God has provided one way of eternal life, which is through his Son Jesus Christ. Eternal life is something that we begin to experience and enjoy even while we are living on earth. The Bible defines eternal life not merely as our current state of existence extended forever into the future, but a transformed existence that taps into the eternal, spiritual realm where God is. Eternal life is not only unending, it bears the characteristics of God for it is lived in the presence of God. We obtain this eternal life through Jesus Christ, God’s Son. If we have the Son abiding within us, we have access to this eternal life and can begin living in a new way.

Lord, open this new way of eternal life for me. Let me live not merely materially, but spiritually. Let me walk in close fellowship with you day-by-day and moment-by-moment. Today, let me tap into the countless blessings of the eternal life you are ready to offer me.
