A Choice of Two Ways – Galatians 5:16-17

I say then, walk by the Spirit and you will certainly not carry out the desire of the flesh. For the flesh desires what is against the Spirit, and the Spirit desires what is against the flesh; these are opposed to each other, so that you don’t do what you want. (Galatians 5:16-17)

Pastor John’s Notes:

In this life, we must choose one of two ways. Either we will live for the flesh and resist the Spirit, or we will live by the Spirit and resist the flesh. Living for the flesh is easy; we simply follow whatever impulse we feel. But the result of living for the flesh is devastating, and ultimately we will be separated eternally from the God who loves us and created us for himself. Living by the Spirit is hard and goes against our natural tendencies of self-interest, but the result will be a glorious reward and a secure place in the eternal kingdom of God. But make no mistake; you cannot seek both simultaneously. You must decide on one or the other.

Lord, I am happy to choose life the Spirit, though I know the way will be hard and there will be many slips and failures. But if you will lead me forward, I know that you will cause the fruit of the Spirit to grow to maturity. Strengthen me each day to choose the difficult but good way.
