A Promise for Children – Acts 2:39

A Promise for Children – Acts 2:39

For the promise is for you and for your children, and for all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:39)

Pastor John’s Notes:

God’s promise of the Holy Spirit is for everyone, even for children. Jesus once said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of God” (Matthew 19:14). The Holy Spirit can sometimes work more effectively in children because worldly habits have not yet become so deeply ingrained in them. This is one reason why we baptize infants. We recognize that the Holy Spirit can take up residence within a child, even before they are born. Think of how John the Baptist leaped in his mother’s womb at the sound of Mary’s voice! God wishes everyone, young and old, to enjoy the abiding presence of his Holy Spirit.

Father, thank you that you have made the Holy Spirit available to everyone. Thank you for the promised gift that is given even to little children. Let us never look down upon children because of their lack of experience. If we are children, let us never suppose that God is withholding his gift from us simply because we are young. Whatever age we are, whether old or young, let us rejoice in the promise of God’s Spirit who is with us in every stage of our journey.
