August 2021 Update

We are back in full swing as we prepare for the 2021-2022 school year! Thank you for your faithful partnership and generosity that allows us to meet, love and serve Yale students.

In June, our team attended Incite, the staff training conference for Northeast Chi Alpha. Something that one speaker, our outgoing National Program Director Dr. Harvey Herman said, has really struck me – “Disillusionment reveals the illusions and points us to look at reality as it really is.”

When I think about what it’s been these last two years in the midst of this pandemic, high racial tensions and trauma, instability and change, disillusionment and disappointment have been inevitable. As I heard these words, I felt the Lord prompt in my heart: what has this past year revealed about the illusions I believe about myself? About ministry? And most importantly, about God and His kingdom?

As I’ve personally processed this, I’ve been profoundly humbled and grateful. Disillusionment and disappointment are not things to be feared, but rather an invitation to see God more clearly as He is. As we step into a new academic year, this is my prayer for myself, for our students, and for you: that we would see God in all His reality, as He really is.

Summer Chi Alpha
We had the opportunity to meet weekly for Summer Chi Alpha with the students in town! Without the pressure and time constraints like during the academic year, students had the opportunity to just hang out, play games, and enjoy time together as we walked through the book of Proverbs.

There’s just something about staying in town during the summer that really brings students together.

After a year of being apart, we were just so encouraged to see their excitement to just be together. I truly believe that God used these weekly times to form deeper community for those who were here!

New Interns
Our staff retreat 2021, somewhere in the Catskills! We welcomed two new interns this month, Becca and Alaenna, as they complete our 10-month long internship program. Becca joins us from Texas Christian University Chi Alpha, and Alaenna from University of Wyoming Chi Alpha.

As a team, we’ve felt that our theme and prayer for this year are Jesus’ words in the gospel of John: “Come and see.” In all that we do, we want to point to this invitation to come and see who this Jesus is – and what life in His kingdom is like. Would you pray with us that many Yalies would come and see this year?

Life Updates

  • We loved being able to spend some vacation time with Ben’s family in Acadia National Park.
  • Two years married! We celebrated by eating at the only Korean BBQ place we were able to find in Connecticut.

Pray for Us

Navigating COVID Restrictions on Campus
While Yale is bringing students back to campus, the newest guidelines do not permit us access to campus buildings. Specifically, please pray as we actively look for a physical space to meet for our weekly gathering, as well as overall favor as we engage as much as we can with students with wisdom and safety.

New Connections
August and September are when we put a lot of time and energy into meeting and connecting with first-years and new students. Pray that God would connect us with the right people and that our student leaders would be passionate about reaching their friends!

Thank You!
Thank you for faithfully praying for and partnering with Yale Chi Alpha. I am honored to be sent here by you! Please let me know how I can be praying for you.
