Therefore, brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and is patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near. Brothers and sisters, do not complain about one another, so that you will not be judged. Look, the judge stands at the door! (James 5:7-9)
Pastor John’s Notes
We would all like God to fix things right away. God will indeed restore all things to himself but will do so in his own time. God’s promises will indeed be fulfilled and Jesus Christ will return, but until that day comes, we must wait. To help us while we wait, God gives us the gift of patience. Christian patience is grounded in a knowledge of God’s power. It is the belief that God is indeed ruling over all creation and that all things are in God’s hands.
Lord, give me the gift of spiritual patience so that I might entrust the circumstances of my life into your hands. Give me faith to know that in the midst of trouble you have not abandoned me. Let me not forget that Jesus Christ will soon return and that the reward for faithfulness is great!
