Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, so that he may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your cares on him, because he cares about you. (1 Peter 5:6-7)
Pastor John’s Notes:
We sometimes forget how much God truly cares for us. When we face difficulties, we try to overcome them by our own wisdom and power. We forget that the greatest resource is already at our disposal. The God who created and ordered the universe desires to shape the course of our lives. God wishes to bestow upon all of his children the strength to overcome every trial. He wants to grant us wisdom that will bring understanding, focus, and direction. We shouldn’t to wait until our difficulties become overwhelming. Instead, we should immediately cast all of our concerns on him and trust him in everything.
Church leadership should rely upon God in all things. Our gatherings should have Christ at the center, and we should engage in spiritual discernment at every level. We should pray at the beginning of each gathering and invite the Holy Spirit to accomplish what God intends. Each person should be sensitive to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and speak whatever words the Spirit gives. At the close, we should look back in prayer to thank God for what he has revealed.
Heavenly Father, I rejoice in your constant love and care. I thank you that you are a God who wants to be engaged in every aspect of life. I confess that I often exclude you to my own harm. Teach me to turn to you quickly. Help me enter into a new way of living, where you and I share all things together.
