Christian Maturity: Maturity Through Trials – James 1:2-4

Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be mature and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:2-4)

Reflection:

Christian maturity comes through facing challenges head-on. Generally speaking, when trouble arises, we tend to run the other way. No one wants their life to become more difficult or complicated, but every trial is an opportunity for spiritual growth. When we face trials and pass through them, trusting in the strength that God supplies, we are different on the other side. We become more mature, more useful to God, and a blessing to the people around us.

Prayer:

Lord, teach me not to run away from the trials of this life but help me pass through them and grow into deeper spiritual maturity.

Life Application:

Trials are the occasion of our spiritual growth, but prayer is the means by which God supplies strength. Therefore, whenever we face trouble, we should be quick to pray. Prayer also calms our spirits, for through prayer, we entrust our circumstances to God‘s guidance and oversight. As long as we are living in this world, we will not escape its trials and temptations. But through the power of the Holy Spirit that God is ready to supply, we can overcome everything!
