Therefore let us leave the elementary doctrine of Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God, and of instruction about washings, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And this we will do if God permits. (Hebrews 6:1-3)
Christian maturity requires us to grow in our understanding. The writer of Hebrews seems to express frustration at how many believers never seem to move beyond the elementary teachings of Christ. There is so much for us to learn, but unless we are deliberately moving forward each day, we will regress. We must then relearn the elementary teachings over and over again. Spending a little time each day in personal study is a joy and moves us forward to deeper things.
Lord, thank you for the elementary teachings of the Bible, but show me how much more there is for me to learn.
