The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” Or again, the head can’t say to the feet, “I don’t need you!” On the contrary, those parts of the body that are weaker are indispensable. And those parts of the body that we consider less honorable, we clothe these with greater honor, and our unrespectable parts are treated with greater respect, which our respectable parts do not need.Instead, God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the less honorable, so that there would be no division in the body, but that the members would have the same concern for each other. (1 Corinthians 12:21-25)
Pastor John’s Notes:
Yesterday we learned that each of us has a role to play in the Body of Christ. We learned how important it is for us to dispense with any thought that we don’t belong. Now we must also learn to dispense with any notion that others do not belong. Divisions arise among the body when groups of believers think of themselves as better than others or begin to believe that others do not belong. Such divisions are hateful to Christ, who gave his life for all so that all might be saved and have a permanent place in his church.
Lord, forgive me for any pridefulness in my heart. I know that any gift I possess has come from you. Forgive me also for any thought I’ve had that someone else does not belong. Teach me to foster a holy respect for every person in the body of Christ.
