My Father is glorified by this: that you produce much fruit and prove to be my disciples. (John 15:8)
How can created creatures glorify the one who created us? It is by producing the fruit of righteousness God intends. This is akin to a grapevine producing good grapes for the one who planted it. We were made to produce righteousness and Jesus Christ has come to restore us to our original purpose. When we abide in Christ, the way of true righteousness is open to us, and by following in his ways, we show that our discipleship is authentic.
Heavenly Father, let me produce a harvest of righteousness, so that my discipleship might be proved genuine and that you might be glorified.
The ultimate purpose of creation is to glorify God, so we should work to understand what this means. In every part of creation, God is displaying some aspect of his character. You are a creation of God, and in fact, a masterwork. When God created human beings, he made them in his image, to bear the fullness of his character. If you want to know what it means to bear the image of God, look to Jesus Christ, for the fullness of God dwelt within him. Our motive in becoming a disciple of Jesus is that the image of God might be restored in us. This is our ultimate goal. So know your purpose! Let the ultimate goal of god-likeness inform and redirect every other goal of your life.
