Friday – God Gives Gifts both Natural and Supernatural – Daniel 1:17
God gave these four young men knowledge and understanding in every kind of literature and wisdom. Daniel also understood visions and dreams of every kind. (Daniel 1:17)
God gave Daniel and his friends many gifts; some of them were natural and others were supernatural. These categories are of our creation; natural and supernatural are all natural to God. Some Christians think that the only valuable gifts are supernatural or those that can be used in the context of church administration, but here we see that otherwise. All good gifts come from God and can be used for God’s glory. For example, knowledge is a gift. So is art, So is wisdom, administration, finance, and every other human endeavor. If the gift comes from God, then God intends us to use it. These young men were not serving in the context of their religion, but serving a pagan king. But God still blessed them with many useful gifts.
Every good gift you have comes from God. You do not need to use your gift in the context of church life in order for your gift to be of value to God and others. The entire world belongs to God, so if you understand that your gift comes from God and desire to use it to honor him, then God is pleased.
Lord, thank you for the abilities and gifts you have given me. Whatever gift you give, let me use it in thankfulness and to glorify you.
