God’s Will That We Do Good – 1 Peter 2:15

For this is the will of God, that by doing good you should put to silence the ignorance of foolish people. (1 Peter 2:15)

Christianity is not merely a set of beliefs; it is a way of life. As Children of God, we are able to recognize the difference between good and evil and choose what is good. People who hate God and despise Christianity will often accuse Christians of hypocrisy. But when we truly pursue righteousness and put our faith into practice, others can see the result. For example, love is better than hatred; forgiveness is better than bitterness, and peace is better than anxiety. I could go on and on. The ways of God exceed the ways of the world at every point. So it is God’s will that by living in the ways of righteousness, we will bear witness to the goodness of God.

Lord, lead me in the ways of righteousness, that I might receive your many blessings and demonstrate your goodness to others.

Life Application:

The true Christian life is manifest not only in the truths we affirm but in the way we live. The first and best witness that we offer to the world is not doctrinal but practical. When people see the difference in the way we live, it will silence their accusations and draw them to God. So there are two benefits to the pursuit of righteousness. First, there is a direct benefit to us in the blessings that are poured out into our lives. But second, other people will see the difference and be drawn to God. So live boldly for Christ. Pursue what is good for your own blessing, but also for a witness to others.
