Guarded by God – 1 Peter 1:5

Guarded by God – 1 Peter 1:5

You are being guarded by God’s power through faith for a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. (1 Peter 1:5)

Pastor John’s Notes:

Earlier we read that God has prepared an inheritance for us in heaven that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. Now we learn that God fully intends us to receive this inheritance and is himself at work to guard our spiritual development. God will not neglect his watchfulness over us. Jesus claimed to be the Good Shepherd who leaves the 99 sheep that are safe in the fold to rescue the one that has gone astray. We are that important! God does not want a single one of us to lose our inheritance.

It is comforting to know that our spiritual progress is not in our hands alone, but that God cares enough to guard us by his power. God continually watches over us and will never fall asleep. God also gives us the gift of faith, which is a spiritual ability to believe and respond to his word. We tend to think that our current condition and future progress rests in our hands alone, but this verse suggests otherwise. It presents us with an understanding of a God who carefully watches over all his children and is continually at work to keep them safe.

Heavenly Father, thank you for your watchful care and for guarding me with your power. Give me the faith I need to respond to your word each day. Help me to progress in my spiritual life until I reach full maturity. And when my journey on earth is finished, let me receive the inheritance you have kept for me in heaven.
