IDENTIFYING TEARS TO THE FABRIC OF UNITY

Most people want their church experience to be free from issues and strife. This is not an unreasonable expectation, but by the power of God, we can share in a beautiful unity as brothers and sisters in Christ, But this unity will not happen without our intentional labor. We need to weave ourselves together, and continually mend any tears that appear. Jesus gave his followers a simple instruction that enables us to mend the tears to unity.

“So when you are offering your gift at the altar, if you remember that your brother or sister has something against you, leave your gift there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother or sister, and then come and offer your gift.” (Matthew 5:23-24)

The trick to unity is to mend tears of division as they appear.

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS THE ANSWER

The kingdom of God is the answer for all division. In recognizing the kingdom and becoming its citizens, we lay aside our personal ideology and join together with other believers as co-laborers for kingdom expansion. This unity is like the tapestry of a quilt, a covering that is composed of many pieces of fabric sown together in a beautiful pattern. The disciples of Jesus had different backgrounds, interests and experiences, but all were chosen to become his followers. Jesus said to his disciples, “To you it has been granted to know the secrets of the kingdom of God. (Matthew 13:11).
