Keeping in Step with the Spirit – Galatians 5:25

Keeping in Step with the Spirit – Galatians 5:25

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. (Galatians 5:25)

Pastor John’s Notes:

Walking in the Spirit is a life of harmony. When people walk together, there is a natural tendency to match each others’ pace and step. This enables us to converse with one another while we walk. Keeping in step with the Spirit is not a hard thing to do. The Spirit sets the pace and we match it. Too often, like children, we excitedly run ahead or get distracted and lag behind. This breaks our communion with God. To keep in step with the Spirit we need only be mindful of the Spirit’s presence and make adjustments. The Spirit is also mindful of us, and will not move so fast that we are exhausted nor move so slowly that we never make progress. The Spirit knows what he wants to do and where he wants to lead. We need only trust in his leadership.

Prayer:

Holy Spirit, set the pace for my daily walk and help me keep in step. Set the course and I will follow. Teach me to walk in harmony with you, that I might not run ahead nor lag behind. Day-by-day help me make progress in my spiritual life. Let me grow strong in the walking, making greater progress as I mature.
