As you come to him, a living stone—rejected by people but chosen and honored by God— you yourselves, as living stones, a spiritual house, are being built to be a holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 2:4-5)
Pastor John’s Notes:
It is a source of great encouragement to know that our salvation is not dependent on our own efforts, but that we are being built up by God. In the same way that Jesus was rejected, we also should expect that the world at large will reject us. But even as God honored Jesus Christ and gave him authority over all the earth, we also are honored by God and are being built up as a holy people.
In our day-to-day struggles, it is easy for us to lose heart. The way of Christ is not an easy way, and there are many obstacles for us to overcome. Yet even while we struggle and face many setbacks, deep within us, there should be an unshakable confidence that God is at work in it all. Remember, the building of a house is not a clean or pretty thing. It is not until the end that the true beauty of the home emerges. So it is with us. The way may be messy now, but the end will be glorious!
Heavenly Father, thank you for your work in my life. Thank you for making me part of the spiritual household of God. Continue to do your good work in my life, preparing me for a finished and eternal life with you.
