Love Defined – Love is not rude – 1 Corinthians 13:5

Love Defined – Love is not rude – 1 Corinthians 13:5

Love is not rude. (1 Corinthians 13:5)

Reflection:

We consider people rude when they are impolite and lack common courtesy. Every human being is due a basic level of respect for we are all made in the image of God. Those who love others recognize the worth of every human being in the eyes of God. Jesus Christ gave his life for everyone, and so everyone is worthy of our respect. Even when others are rude to us, we should never be rude in return.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, as you have shown love to every person, enable me also to show respect toward everyone I encounter. Let me never be rude or discourteous, but honor others with the same honor I would desire for myself.

Life Application:

In many areas of life today, we see common courtesy disintegrating. Entertainment, news, and social media are saturated with hatred and bitterness. The more we are exposed the easier it is to adapt worldly attitudes. It is relatively easy to pour out bitterness on social media where people can’t respond directly, but it is a different thing to speak to someone in person. God wants us to be kind and respectful in every area of our lives, so be mindful of the things you expose yourself to and be careful not to adapt worldly attitudes. In every encounter, keep an awareness that the person you speak to is loved by God and one for whom Jesus Christ has given his life.
