Mark 1:16-20

Mark 1:16-20

As he passed alongside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew, Simon’s brother, casting a net into the sea—for they were fishermen. “Follow me,” Jesus told them, “and I will make you fish for people.” Immediately they left their nets and followed him. Going on a little farther, he saw James the son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat putting their nets in order. Immediately he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him. (Mark 1:16-20)

Jesus calls ordinary people to an extraordinary life. His call is the turning point of your life. When you decide to follow him, you become his disciple and begin a season of training to serve for the expansion of his kingdom. The fishermen left everything, knowing that Jesus would now train them to catch people instead of fish. It will be the same for you. You will have to leave behind your personal goals and hopes for the future to commit yourself fully to his work. Jesus Christ hasn’t come to help you achieve your goals; he has come to establish a kingdom and invites you to serve as one of his citizens. So give yourself fully to Jesus Christ. Surrender yourself to his calling. Leave behind your common life and say “Yes!” to his extraordinary offer. Follow Jesus and learn to live as his disciple!

Prayer:
Lord Jesus Christ, I have heard your call to follow you, and I gladly say ‘Yes!” I am happy to surrender my personal goals and hopes for the future to become one of your disciples. Teach me the ways of your kingdom, and let me move on to spiritual maturity. Guide me to places of service and give me responsibilities. Let your Spirit direct every thought and action so that I might serve you well.
