Matthew 5:11-12

Matthew 5:11-12

“You are blessed when they insult you and persecute you and falsely say every kind of evil against you because of me. Be glad and rejoice, because your reward is great in heaven. For that is how they persecuted the prophets who were before you. (Matthew 5:11-12)

In this last blessing of The Beatitudes, Jesus gets very personal. He knows that his disciples will face persecution because of their association with him, and he likens them to the prophets of old, whom God chose and appointed to speak His Word. The words of the prophets were often resisted and many of the prophets were persecuted because they spoke the truth. So it will be with the disciples of Jesus. But Jesus knows those who belong to him and walks with them every step of their journey. He will never leave us or abandon us. And the reward for our faithfulness is greater than any price we might pay.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, as you were not ashamed to be associated with me, to call me your friend, and even bear my sin to the cross, so I will never be ashamed of you. I will boldly proclaim your truth and endure whatever persecution may fall, knowing that you are with me. If I have your favor, I have all that I need.
