Matthew 5:6

Matthew 5:6

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6)

The word for righteousness in the original language of the Bible means “divine approval.” Jesus promises that if we genuinely pursue righteousness, we will indeed find what we are looking for. When we seek to live in a way that pleases God, God will most certainly be our helper. And the righteousness God will give us will not be a shallow, meager righteousness, but one that is deeply satisfying. As a result, we will no longer strive within our souls, but we will be satisfied. We will obtain both the favor of God and the deep, abiding peace that follows.

Prayer:

Lord, thank you that I can indeed obtain your favor. Let me hunger after righteousness so that I might pursue it, be filled, and find peace.
