Matthew 5:7

Matthew 5:7

Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. (Matthew 5:7)

When we pray The Lord’s Prayer, we say, “Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us.” The same truth is conveyed in this blessing. God wants to forgive us and will do so whenever we repent, but he expects us to show the same kindness and grace to those who have offended us.

Each of us should examine our hearts daily to ensure that bitterness does not take root. If we are holding a grudge, we should surrender it. If we are harboring hatred or resentment, we should repent of it. God will extend grace to us to the same degree that we show grace toward others.

Lord, thank you for the patience and grace you have shown me throughout my journey. Let me extend the same kindness and grace toward others. Help me to keep my soul clean of any bitterness, hatred, or resentment.
