Romans 1:16-17

Romans 1:16-17

For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, first to the Jew, and also to the Greek. For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith, just as it is written: The righteous will live by faith. (Romans 1:16-17)

Paul was reviled for his faith. The Jews could not believe that God would allow the Messiah to be crucified, considering the message of Christ offensive. The Greeks could not believe that God would come in the flesh and considered the message of Christ foolishness. But Paul had met Christ in person and was not ashamed of the message, even though many people were attempting to shame him into silence. He understood that God was calling many people, both Jews and Greeks, to himself. He decided he would not be ashamed!

You should not be ashamed either. There are many forces at work in the world today that would silence Christians. They hate the message and don’t want to hear it. Others want to distort the message to fit into modern cultural sensibilities. To stand for truth has always been a challenge, but to those who love him, Jesus gives a spirit of confidence and boldness to proclaim the message of his love. So be bold! There is much work to do, and Christ is returning soon! Be unashamed of the message that has saved your soul!

Lord Jesus Christ, as you appeared to Paul and called him to serve you, reveal yourself to me also! Put your spirit of truth within my soul and give me the boldness I need to live for you despite what others might say. Let your message fill the entire earth for your glory and the joy of those you are calling to yourself.
