Therefore, my brothers and sisters, you also were put to death in relation to the law through the body of Christ so that you may belong to another. You belong to him who was raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God. (Romans 7:4)
It is a great joy to know that you belong to Christ. He purchased you for himself out of his great love for you, and if you belong to him, you can rest assured that he is always mindful of you. Jesus intends to walk with you. He desires that you would share your life with him and that he would share his life with you. And even more than this, Jesus intends that you would join with him in reigning over God‘s creation. With all of these amazing blessings, why would we ever return to our former life of sin and rebellion? No, we will never return, but we will move forward faithfully into the joyful future God has planned for us.
We can get started by bearing fruit for God. Galatians 5:22 lists the fruit of the Spirit as, “love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” All of these spiritual characteristics can grow within us with increasing measure. These traits of God are the foundation of our walk with God and shape the way we govern God’s world.
Lord Jesus, I am so very grateful that I now belong to you. Let me grow in all of the spiritual characteristics of God so that my life can bear the fruit God intends.
