Spiritual Gifts – 1 Corinthians 12:1-3

Spiritual Gifts – 1 Corinthians 12:1-3

This week we will study spiritual gifts, the abilities or traits that God gives to each of his people so that they can participate in God’s work. These are listed and explained in 1 Corinthians 12.

Now concerning spiritual gifts: brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be unaware. You know that when you were pagans, you used to be enticed and led astray by mute idols. Therefore I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit. (Corinthians 12:1-3)

Pastor John’s Notes:

Some people wonder whether or not they have received the Holy Spirit. The simple test for this is whether or not you affirm that Jesus is Lord. If so, the Holy Spirit has begun to do his work in your life. The Spirit comes from Jesus and is Jesus himself. If you call Jesus your Lord, it is important to know that have been given the Holy Spirit so that you can take the next steps in your spiritual journey. God does not want you to linger long at the starting gate. There is a race to be won! There is work to be done! So let’s begin by embracing this idea. Jesus Christ has given his Holy Spirit to every one of his followers. If we have not been living by his power, then it is time for us to do so!

Prayer:

Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for sending your Holy Spirit to reveal your Lordship. I happily accept you as Savior and Lord, and promise to follow you wherever you lead. Give to me the spiritual gifts I need to get started on my journey.
