For since he himself has suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted. (Hebrews 2:18)
Jesus Christ was human, as human as we are. He suffered the highest form of temptation when he was tested by the devil in the wilderness. But Jesus emerged victorious over all the devil’s schemes. Therefore, Jesus understands temptation and understands it better than any of us. If we turn to him, he will be able to assist us. He will not do the work for us, for this would violate our free will. But he is able to help us understand why we are being tempted and can show us the way out. Our first response to temptation should always be to go to Christ for the help he is so ready to offer.
Lord Jesus Christ, thank you for the help you are ready to offer whenever I am tempted. Give me the wisdom to reach out to you quickly and receive the strength and wisdom you are ready to offer.
Whenever you are tempted, turn quickly to Jesus Christ. He will provide you with the wisdom you need to understand how and why you are being tempted. He will also reveal what you should do. He is ready to do this work, but will only respond to our asking. So ask and receive the wisdom, strength, and help that Jesus is ready to offer.
