The Wise and Foolish Builders – Matthew 7:24-27

The Wise and Foolish Builders – Matthew 7:24-27

Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain fell, the rivers rose, and the winds blew and pounded that house. Yet it didn’t collapse, because its foundation was on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and doesn’t act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, the rivers rose, the winds blew and pounded that house, and it collapsed. It collapsed with a great crash. (Matthew 7:24-27)

Pastor John’s Notes:

After speaking about the way of righteousness, Jesus places the responsibility squarely on the shoulders of his hearers. Everyone is hearing him, but only some will put his teachings into practice. Here is both a warning and a promise. A time of judgment is coming for all who live on the earth. Jesus has given us what we need to prepare ourselves and has promised that if we put his teachings into practice, we will stand through that judgment.

Prayer:

Lord, you have spoken your Word to me and I have heard it. I know what I must do. Let me do all that is needed to put your teachings into practice. You have given me responsibility over my own soul, and I do not shy away from it. Yet I know my own frailty and need your encouragement. Give me strength, wisdom, and patience as I devote my life to your Word.
