The Word of God: The Word is Effective

The Word of God: The Word is Effective

For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10-11)

Reflection:

We rely upon God in every area of our lives, whether we want to or not. All of us are part of God’s creation and subject to his rule. Just as the earth receives water, so we receive the blessings of God. Even the food on our table is evidence of God’s general care. But God also wishes to speak his specific Word to us: his living truth that will transform us and redirect our lives. God sends his Word with specific purposes, and the Word succeeds in what it was sent to accomplish.

Prayer:

Lord God, speak your living Word to me, that you might accomplish your good purposes within me.

Life Application:

When you are troubled and confused, ask God to speak his Word to you. The Word may come through a passage of Scripture you read, but it may also come through another means. God may use a Christian brother or sister to speak words of wisdom and encouragement. God may even speak through the peace and beauty of nature to instill an eternal truth within your soul. God’s Word may even surpass our intellect and touch the deep part of our soul with an intuitive truth beyond words. The more we are receptive to God’s Word, the more we will walk on the path he has laid out for us. So learn to listen for God’s Word.
