Director of Worship – Full Time, salaried Hempfield United Methodist Church 3050 Marietta Ave. Lancaster, PA 17601 Hempfield United Methodist Church is an established church located in Lancaster, PA, with a clear vision: “To know Jesus and make Him known.” We are seeking a full-time Director of Worship to plan contemporary and traditional worship services that are centered in the adoration and glorification of God. We seek someone who has a genuine love for Christ and a genuine love for people of all ages, who is filled with the Spirit and able to create a Spirit-filled worship environment. We seek someone with a solid theology that Christ is King and views the world through that mindset. We seek someone who can lead the congregation as brothers and sisters in Christ and participate as a fully-engaged member of our church community. Two or more years of experience in a ministry setting and/or relevant degree or training is required, along with being a gifted vocalist capable of leading worship with an instrument (preferably guitar or piano). Reading scripture, praying, and verbally interacting with the congregation is required, along with working in concert with the Lead and Associate Pastors, church musicians, and technicians.

This position coordinates and plans the Hempfield United Methodist Church worship services that are centered in the adoration and glorification of God

  • Job Classification: Full-time, salaried
  • Reports to Lead Pastor
  • Completes and maintains compliance with Hempfield United Methodist Church doctrine, Book of Discipline, Safe Sanctuary training, and local church policies

Ministry Qualifications and Responsibilities: Qualifications

  • A clear testimony of faith in Jesus Christ and a vital, growing, personal relationship with Him.
  • Commitment to the authority of the Bible and agreement with the doctrines expressed in the Apostles Creed.
  • Called to directing worship, loves people, and has a passion for evangelism and outreach.
  • 2-3 years of worship leading experience in a ministry setting and/or relevant degree or training is required.
  • Willing to become an engaged member of the Hempfield United Methodist Church community.
  • Thrives within a team environment: with the pastoral staff, church leadership, other church staff and volunteers.
  • A gifted vocalist who is capable of leading worship with an instrument (preferably guitar or piano).
  • Ability to read Scripture, pray, and verbally interact and engage with a congregation during worship.
  • A proven developer of musicians, vocalists, and teams.
  • Skilled in the use of computers and technology in worship including AV, multimedia, tech, and presentation software, sound, lighting, and Planning Center Online.
  • Organized, prepared, punctual, proactive, self-starter with a positive attitude able to work without close supervision
  • Flexible to changes in procedures and/or direction.
  • Demonstrates strong interpersonal, administrative, and communication skills.

Director of Worship Responsibilities:

  • Plan the corporate contemporary and traditional worship services in consultation with the Pastoral Team with prayer, conceptual forethought, theological accuracy, and musical appropriateness.
  • Ensure that all aspects of the services compliment the sermon series.
  • Oversee song selection, media preparation and presentation, sound and lighting enhancements, and coordination of all instrumentalists and vocalists.
  • Include a variety of traditional and contemporary songs.
  • Recruit and lead worship team singers and instrumentalists and prepare them through regular rehearsals to lead the congregation in worship.
  • Oversee an adult choir, fitting musical selections into the flow of worship.
  • Oversee/support Cherub and Children’s Choir
  • Support children and youth ministry Worship Teams
  • Be available for special services including funerals, communion services, and other special programs.
  • Carefully plan and manage the worship department budget, organization, and volunteers.
  • Promote the unity, direction and vision of Hempfield United Methodist Church by participating in staff and leadership meetings.
  • Develop annual goals for the worship ministry and a full year calendar that will accomplish our mission and vision as a church
  • Stay current with Worship ministry practices by reading, attending established conferences, and participating in groups and forums dealing with worship ministry.
