SAFE SANCTUARY TRAINING

FALL 2026

Because we believe that Jesus taught us to care for His children and youth, we commit our church to the practice of safe supervision. A Safe Sanctuary policy sets standards for the supervision of the children, youth, and vulnerable adults in our care. Thus we adopt policies for the prevention of neglect and abuse. Therefore, as Christian communities of faith we pledge to conduct the ministry of the gospel in ways that assure the safety and spiritual growth of all children, youth, and vulnerable adults and those who minister to them.

Our current Safe Sanctuary Policy is viewable here.

Are you interested in volunteering with Hempfield  and need to complete or renew your clearances? There are a couple of things that you need to know.

  1. If you’re new to the church, we want to get to know you. We do ask that people spend 6 months with the church before they begin to volunteer.
  2. We need a few pieces of information from you. There are 3 clearances we need to obtain, and usually all 3 are free:
    1. Your PA State Police Criminal Background Check
    2. Your PA Childline Child Abuse Clearance Check
    3. FBI background check (fingerprints ~$25) or a letter certifying that you have lived in PA continuously for the last 10 years.
  3. After that, you will need to attend a Safe Sanctuary training or view the video of the training.
  • Go to PA CRIMINAL HISTORY
    • Click on the yellow “New Record Check” button for volunteers (Safari users on Mac or iPad/iPhone may need to use Chrome)
    • Complete the new record.
    • Email it or print it.
  • Go to PA CHILD ABUSE
    • Create an individual account as a volunteer, sub purpose of “Other: Religious Organization”
    • Email or print the results.
  • Lastly, FBI background check and fingerprints or a letter

*Staff and volunteers are required to pay for their clearances. The church will reimburse you once you fill out a Check Request Form, which can be found in the staff mailboxes and submitted to Lois Pierce, Office Manager.

*You only need to renew once a year – those who trained in Oct. 2025 do not need to attend.
