Special Statement from Church Council

Special Statement from Church Council

The Church Council wants to reaffirm that with the congregation’s support, we are actively on a path to leave the United Methodist Church. Hempfield has joined with 50 other United Methodist Churches of Eastern Pennsylvania in a lawsuit to pursue equitable terms for disaffiliation. The lawsuit is moving forward through the discovery phase, and we are looking forward to a positive outcome where we can leave the denomination through the methodology of the litigation.

It is sad that we came to this point, but the Church Council wants to be clear that our church is not in agreement with the General Conference and its decisions. As Rev. Jerry Kulah stated during General Conference, “For the past 52 years, every attempt has been made to alter God’s Biblical truth. Today, we have a majority in General Conference characterized by liberals and progressives who are doing everything to change the Bible into something else.”

At Hempfield, we serve only Christ, our Lord and Savior. We trust the Bible as God’s Word. It reveals God’s truth with no error. It cannot be rewritten by any man, woman, or denomination.
